With juxtaposed rhythms and flickering beats, Dutch producer Stefan Vincent’s Pre Melancholy (released on Amsterdam-baed MUSAR, June 2023) is a sweetened industrial and shuffled ambient-techno mélange that sadly slipped under our radar. However, the EP manages to hold on to our senses, and “Mono No Aware,” with its hypnotic, high-tech, and rapid fire percussive sheen, feels like a breath of fresh air as it wisps by. The penultimate track (“Yonghegong Lama Temple Exit F”) conveys a more subdued message with brittle bleeps, while “Agent of Distraction” packs an impactful aural punch with fluctuating bass. The final Priori remix of “Yonghegong Lama Temple Exit F” holds lighter audio tints on this clicks and cuts benchmark, making it slightly more fragile than the original.
