Three ambient, sound-art, and microtonal projects united by a fascination with looped soundscapes converge on Southern Lands to craft a lush, multilayered soundtrack for deep reflection. While I was already familiar with the first two Argentine projects reuniting for this release, their collaboration here expands into something even more transportive and emotionally resonant.
Reverie is a tour of unadorned castles in the air, playful and strange vocals, music inspiring pleasant dream-like thoughts, expressed with wordless musical vocalisms, fluid speech-like syllables that might lack any readily comprehensible meaning, an extravagant conceit of the imagination, a lost sense of dreaming while awake. There is an extraordinary array of great talent here.
The music of John Cage & Earle Brown captures the essence of Cage’s and Brown’s avant-garde philosophies, making it essential for enthusiasts of experimental classical music, and for those that want to tip their toe into exploring the beginnings of electronic music.
Tertium Quid admits more emphasize on orchestrated cinematic grooves, chamber-pop melodicism, sampled collage, and spoken word with a clear call to be immersed in a reflective naturescape tendency, inviting the listener to be guided in a sentient vastness where shapes, time, moods, variations and colors are journeying around him.
With its emphasis on subtle variation and harmonic innovation, Loop 7 is a compelling listen for fans of experimental music and microtonal compositions, inviting deeper engagement with every spin. This is a standout release for both Golub and Greyfade.
Taking from the timeless classical and traditional forms and instrumentation, and adding the electronica and sonic time traveling dimensions previously only dreamed of. Actual horns and strings with synthesizers coming together in a breathless deep polar excursion, in slow motion.
