V/A :: Touched Bass (Touched Music / Bass Agenda)

Touched Bass brings together a vast array of artists for a great cause from techno, ambient and industrial. Given the heaviness of a lot of these tracks one could assume the organizers hope to simply beat cancer into remission.

On the industrial end you have “Vectors” by The Hacker which sounds like Richard H Kirk/Cabaret Voltaire circa 1989 with the sawtooth synth plinks, 808 drums and crackly sample and “KIll.Switch” by Kronos Device which is 6:38 of high energy anger set to a 180BPM rhythm. Standout tracks include “Erase” by Confutatis with its noisy, burbling synths and cold, cold beats anchored by deep, deep bass into a solid sonic workout. John Tejada’s “OPZ” is possibly the best track on the album with its gentle echoing opener and steady 4×4 drums which pave the way for a great work by a master. “I Am A Killer” by Posthuman has a slight Burial vibe to it but swings nicely with a downtempo beat perfect for midnight strolls on rain damp streets. “Track For My Father” by w1b0 is a sweet techno track with string pads eliciting a kind melody over brittle beats. “Tetuan Tapes 01” by Tetuan Tapes is a classic dark techno banger guaranteed to shake the sheets and move the feet. “Unseen Tides” by Tudor Acid could be an AFX demo with its lo-fi vibe and wacky progressions.

While not all the tracks may be your bag it’s still a compilation for a good cause so drop some ducats and kick some cancer in the ass while shaking the same.

Touched Bass is available on Touched Music / Bass Agenda.
