Natural sounds that are common to ambient soundscapes have a tinge of gloom attached, this feels much more realistic, especially over the colder months.
Granular, spatial and drone intentions
Avant-garde electronic sounds and technological landscape centered label Ambient flux return with their Synthesis series, this is the second long awaited release since the compilations debut back in October 2020, building upon its conventions, simply titled Synthesis<2. What is uncovered over the course of an hour is thoughtful and contemplative movements. The project brings together 11 female artists and producers, curated by Syntax Erika who also features.
Each track presents its own variation and approach to granular, spatial and drone intentions. Included in some are delicate vocal performances (Delphine Dora), whilst others exchange this for more distorted harmonics (Concepcion Huerta). An overall binding throughout is the slightly darker tones and minor progressions in these explorations. Natural sounds that are common to ambient soundscapes have a tinge of gloom attached, this feels much more realistic, especially over the colder months—not sure if this was intentionally briefed in the curation, but it works!
Personal favorites include the exquisite musings Asako Miyaki with “Morphoria 1,” and Hanakiv dropping in some wonderful drum grooves in their track “The Grey Matter Abnormalities.”
Available for pre-order on both digital and cassette via Ambient flux Bandcamp. Full release coming this Friday 28th.
