Not unexpected, Caring Too Much is a magnetic release that will have us coming back as it exposes top-notch, mind-blowing mayhem.
Another batch of heavy breaks, grit, distortion, and spastic rhythms
Drill’n braindance maestro Stazma (aka Julien Guillot) scorches another batch of heavy breaks, grit, distortion, and spastic rhythms on a half-dozen tracks for Caring Too Much, a split release with Grey Meta and Concrete Collage. “Empathy Monster” and “Computer Based Manipulations of Analog Recordings” both maintain a gruff crunch of blips and bleeps and ricocheting percussion, while opener “Surveillance” shatters sound space with groovy bass guitar, breakbeats, and acid swirls. Compared to its peers, “Accident” feels less energetic in a way, yet it still achieves a high level of blistering glitch while melodic strands hold the tune together.
“Protection” is the standout track on the EP and displays Stazma’s unrelenting creativity as it combines hard-edged electronic elements with deeper industrial textures. In its brief length, the closing track “Step” twirls delicate synth noodles and melodics, leaving us wanting just a little bit more from the multifaceted musician. Not unexpected, Caring Too Much is a magnetic release that will have us coming back as it exposes top-notch, mind-blowing mayhem.
