Plenty of brittle collisions and polished sonic artifacts
It’s always a thrill to find out where Lyon, France-based Concrete Collage will take their sounds next. Having accumulated a wide assortment of releases from musicians across the globe, their focus remains on consistently high-quality, abstract and fractured electronics. Previously producing tracks for Kaometry Records (and later on Open Outlets and Billegal Beats), Le Perche Oreille offers fresh and distorted broken beats galore. Having covered Kaometry releases in the past, it seems they’re on hiatus at the moment. Nonetheless, We Are Robots provides plenty of brittle collisions and polished sonic artifacts with curious melodies and briskly shuffled rhythms. Sporadic pitter-patter beats pulse and flicker at just the right angles as braindance and laidback breaks intersect.
Subtle blips cascade their way through each piece, as Le Perche Oreille provides just enough spark and spunk to keep these audible miniatures in constant movement. Where spastic drum patterns and delicate, even video game-tinged melodies blend, We Are Robots is an overflowing, dense, and carefully crafted release checking all the boxes for lasting experimental electronics. We’re even treated to an intense remix by Beatwife to close the proceedings in a chaotically blissful and hypnotic fashion. Highlights include “Shurupakk,” “わたし わ ろぼっと です か,” “Materia Mysterion II,” and “Fluorescences.”
