November 2021 saw the release of Slace’s SSD extended player, a fluid, crunchy and bass-stricken 6-pack yielding all forms of sound design and audio trickery. Synths and Ableton playing a major role; the focus doesn’t remain locked on digital blips’n bleeps, instead, Moscow-based Slace drives a fork through melody-heavy and glitch-blasted rhythms.
While opener “Fidelio” delves through sizzling ambient tropes and light static whirs, closer “mllrm” showcases Slace’s ability to weave infinite atmospheric dub strands with Berlin-infused flavor, echoing notes from outer space. While “ill pussy introvert” displays funky, broken, and shuffled electrical shards, “Sé2OOl” ventures through detuned orbiting pulsars baffling the senses as “ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” weaves industrial clicks’n cuts in pseudo-technoid formation. Not forgetting the chopped-up “ZEN2C”—fracturing ambient glitches into bite-sized morsels further embedding the artists’ fascination with abstract aural substructures. A dizzying array of manipulated and brittle soundscapes are on full display as SSD is a mechanized behemoth of electronic delight.
