Inhabiting loose electronic forms and functions
A limited edition 12” EP by the multi-talented Serge Geyzel and Karsten Pflum titled Remains of the Day sees their collaboration come to life with mindcolormusic and Pierre Emmanuel Lemesre. Experimenting with jungle and IDM strains, the 4-tracks span an assortment of creative ideas to kick off the new year. “One Chord” eases us into an ethereal modular world of curious bleeps and subtle, eerie shifts as “Lomo” blisters breaks and melodic tendencies, grabbing the feet and ears with garage beatwork that fans of Photek will devour. “Dar Es Salami” casts a few amen breaks, rugged bass volleying, and sandblasted drumming that introduces the core of the EP as the title track is an assemblage of that that’s transpired. Beautifully choreographed soundscapes and fluttering melodies galore, the duo manage to seamlessly inhabit loose electronic forms and functions—molding their own sonic windows. Let’s hope for more of this collaboration in 2022!
