“Japanese-hardcore, spacey-kraut-rock, and acoustic guitar math-rock renditions round out this otherwise perfectly exquisite line-up of both up-and-coming and established electronic gunslingers. Strangely titled Evil Against Evil, (taken from a line in The Exorcist), Sean Wolfe (aka Salvo Beta) has put himself up against the ropes, hoping to take it like a man from his friends and neighbors.” >> Press-Release.

Salvo Beta’s oddly manic and noisey debut Abrasive Stuttering (Someoddpilot) made quite a ripple in the experimental electronic field and this time around, he’s offered up a series of remixes taken from this album for the creation of the 16-track manifesto of obscure experimentations in sound destruction. Playing alongside Hrvatski, Melt-Banana, and Richard Devine and forming some musical friendships along the way, Sean enrolled some of these friends into what is now known as the Evil Against Evil compilation. Many tracks on this CD are fractured into hundreds of digital bursts where shiny electrical rhythms are melted on energetic breaks and creative basslines. But don’t kid yourself, Evil Against Evil highlights the best of both worlds.. abstract electronics vs. downbeat guitar-driven madness. Those offering up the textured bass-heavy electronics include Jake Mandell, Instigator, Sutekh, String Theory, Hrvatski, Twine, Atropa, Safety Scissors, K-Rad, Solenoid & Mollarmill.

Pal:ndrom, Machwaht remain in a non-genre defined area of downbeat experimentations and 4/4 enriched mood swings respectively. It’s hard to place a particular “sound” next to 16 artists whose musical backgrounds are filled with unique musical passions, but in the case of Evil Against Evil there’s a distinctive multi-flavored group of remixers flexing their talents in unusual and creative ways. Evil Against Evil can be ear-capturing, but at times it proves to be a frustrating listen.

All in all a truly diverse and energetic collection of work comprised of tough electronics and genre-bending musical formations. Watch your step
