rand :: Peripherie (Self Released)

rand offers minuscule audio Polaroids where abstract pitter-patter notes glide with highly-tensioned strings vibrating in the most unusually calming tangents.

Carefully unveiling a blend of piano keys and electrical flutter

Four years in the making, concert pianist Jan Gerdes and minimal techno producer Dr.Nojoke join forces as rand on their debut, self-released album Peripherie. Nine pieces that carefully expand and evolve, there’s a static blur and buzz that starts up on “Drangsal”—carefully unveiling a blend of piano keys and electrical flutter.

Microscopic tones and distant melodies drift with spacious abandon. An emotional charm carefully reveals itself on tracks like “Future Is Certain,” as it gradually builds and builds, only to begin its slow descent with eroded clicks and cuts. Peripherie seems to channel just what it set out to do; its peripheral vision is clear and constant. And yet there’s something stirring in the background that can’t quite be pinned. Its eeriness and mysterious ambient layers (ref. “Siegfried 2.0”) offer foggy soundscapes of contemplation as “Blood Moon” unfolds darker strains, maintaining noisier fluctuation and evolving into the most delicate, serene, and emotive piano transition.

The air is thick as the night falls; darkness is as bright as it can be. rand offers minuscule audio Polaroids, where abstract pitter-patter notes glide with highly-tensioned strings vibrating in the most unusually calming tangents.

Peripherie is available on Bandcamp.
