Blending the ricocheting analog data-processing to extreme effect
We’ve written about Qebrus in the past, but it’s always been a challenge. Yes, his music is a challenge—it defies convention, rips through an electronic mess and leaves the listener in bewilderment, unsure of what has happened. Aphex Twin recently dropped one his tracks at Day For Night (not surprisingly), blending the ricocheting analog data-processing to extreme effect.
But is it terrestrial? Is it digestible? Is Qebrus‘ audio-scribbling meant for casual listening? Probably not. The presumable wingdings fanatic offers unintelligible titles that veer in their own directions while erratic sound-streams baffle the ears. On ᐔ ᐌ ᐂ ᐍ ᐚ, Qebrus continues to bemuse—derailing abstract electrical bits and imploding them from every angle. One track after the other, shuffling metallic layers scrape the landscape, 90s-era videogame themes collide, and DSP flickering is in full view. 2024 update :: In a time where it seems everything has already been done before Thomas Denis (aka Qebrus) leaves behind a legacy of an artist who was truly doing their own thing. Love Love will be releasing ᐔ ᐌ ᐂ ᐍ ᐚ on vinyl for the first time on November 22, 2024. Thomas is survived by his two children who will be receiving his proceeds from sales of this release.
