Otto Von Schirach & Qebrus :: Ottobrus EP (Serendip Lab)

Their eponymous EP on Serendip Lab is a powerful mix of the Santeria via Saturn Miami bass power techno of Otto von Schirach and the IDM, mystique-concrete stylings of the mysterious Thomas Denis.

Alien IDM, bastard electronics and musique concrète

Ottobrus is the collaborative effort of Otto Von Schirach and the late Thomas Denis aka Qebrus. Their eponymous EP on Serendip Lab is a powerful mix of the Santeria via Saturn Miami bass power techno of Otto von Schirach and the IDM, mystique-concrete stylings of the mysterious Thomas Denis. The tracks are a combination of alien IDM, bastard electronics and musique concrète. “Enter The Sacred Triangle” rumbles and rambles across styles while briefly settling on a beat in a quiet interlude. “Inside Our Mama” is the sound of every copy of Tri Repetae played at once from a million watt speaker at the bottom of an ancient cistern. “Fata Clara Morgana Bismuth” is the intersection of grind core and hiphop with drill’n bass beats and steel wool distortion on every sound and surface. “Earth & Egnamis” breaks the cacophony for some carefully constructed modular synth arpeggiator and progression as if finding a brief respite of open deep space while plumbing the core of every black hole in the universe simultaneously. “Super Pineal Bros” closes to the album with what is the most OVS of the op’s songs with snippets of rap, thudding 808 on steroid beats and precise modular mood enhancements. A great work from a great pair and a fitting ending to a collaborative effort cut short all too soon.

Ottobrus is available on Serendip Lab. [Bandcamp]
