Özcan Saraç :: TON (Evel)

The thirteen pieces, broken, infected, and deformed from every viewpoint, exude off-center rhythms and fragmented beats in an unabridged collection that seems to have no beginning or end.

Özcan Saraç creates vast auditory landscapes by combining intense glitch and sci-fi soundtrack elements, causing hundreds of disparate bleeps and blips to collide into a blissful supernova. The artist has also been featured on Kaer’Uiks and Tokinogake; this time his surreal sounds are elevated with the envelope-pushing IDM aficionados at Evel. The thirteen pieces, broken, infected, and deformed from every viewpoint, exude off-center rhythms and fragmented beats in an unabridged collection that seems to have no beginning or end.

Some tracks eclipse the 10-minute mark, manipulating various abstract electronic structures and bass thuds from the distant reaches of our galaxy, with what seems to be an open-field to expand horizons. While “GRS 1915+105/V1487 Aql” continues to disrupt time and space, the track “Mrk 101” unleashes layers of atmospheric distortion and snappy low-flying sonic swirls. Dark ambient veils and distant dronescapes are also present, interspersed in between. A few more accessible modular panoramas on TON, including “AP Librae” and “Arp 220,” feel a little more arcane due to their vibrant Autechrean subspaces.

Even with this experimental treasure trove of broken electronics, Özcan Saraç nevertheless manages to give a potent dose of remarkably compelling, wholly strange, and otherworldly soundtrack maneuvers. Another milestone release for the label as Özcan Saraç’s TON soars.
