Uneasy grimy atmospheres of bleak dissonances, discordant waving elements collide with gauzy droning thrills, lysergic droned-out mantra to haunt the listener at the heart of neurotic solitary madness and transfigured paths of the mind.

Celebrating the pinnacle of Zoppo’s harsh, abrasive and atonal avant-gardism

Pier Paolo Zoppo (alias Mauthausen Orchestra) is one pioneer and truly distinctive, emblematic figure of the death ambient/power electronic industrial music scene froms 80s Italian underground. His name and heritage can be placed next to Italian then international level noise acts such as Sigilium S, Atrax Morgue, Maurizio Bianchi, SPK, and Archon Satani. Zoppo suddenly passed away a few years ago and the indie industrial music scene was deeply shaken by this loss.

Even if I’m relatively familiar with obscure corners of this musical scene, I discovered Mauthausen Orchestra thanks to a still recent collaboration with Nimh (alias Giuseppe Verticchio), also published by Silentes. This album is based on previously unreleased lost tracks taken from various recordings sessions is nothing less than mythical and celebrates the pinnacle of Pier Paolo Zoppo’s harsh, abrasive and atonal avant-gardism.

Uneasy grimy atmospheres of bleak dissonances, discordant waving elements collide with gauzy droning thrills, lysergic droned-out mantra to haunt the listener at the heart of neurotic solitary madness and transfigured paths of the mind, really thought provoking and infiltrating the dark corners of the consciousness. A rare document that is very recommended for completists.
