Legacy (aka Subaquatic Legacy) dives deep into Drexciya’s aquatic mythology, channeling cold machine funk and Detroit electro spirit into his latest 12”, Expanding the Bubblenet. Blending fierce dancefloor cuts with introspective soundscapes, the record pays homage to its roots while carving out a distinct new current in modern techno.

Legacy, or Subaquatic Legacy, is rooted in the traditions of Drexciya. From his sub-aquatic track titles to his cold machine funk, this mysterious figure is draws inspiration from the sounds of Donald and Stinson. His latest 12”, Expanding The Bubblenet, is just hitting stores.

Melting electro and techno, “Heat Disciplines” is a sample laden journey deep into the machines. Fierce oscillations are controlled by a stark beat in “It’s Only the Pressure,” thick basslines rumbling beneath the surface. “Arribada” is different—a sodden snare is dried to a sharper beat as a playful meandering melody descends. Nothing is stable in this track, Legacy toying with a spread of ideas to come to a finished piece of funk that defies definition. The flip changes the mood and tempo. “Seabed Romance” is introduced by crystalline chords, an incising beat slicing through the satellite synthlines in this astral immersion. From just below the waterline, the stargazing continues with “Dreaming of the Roo Curve.” Cold and elegant, this glacial curtain call is a brittle and layered piece of frigid electronics with the human touch penetrating the machines.

The past is always alluring, as is the Drexciyan legend. Although Expanding The Bubblenet takes its cue from a pair of Detroit pioneers, it is far from pastiche. The selection offers both dancefloor weapons and more pensive pieces from an artist who is only beginning their career.
