At Odds by Paul Cheshire’s Language Field moniker contains six flowing tracks of heavily saturated grooves.

At Odds by Paul Cheshire’s Language Field moniker contains six flowing tracks of heavily saturated grooves. The EP starts with the eerie, retro sci-fi beat of “Link Rot,” which rapidly gives way to “Shadowless,” a powerful highlight that explores brittle electronica blips and bleeps from the mid-1990s (think of Autechre’s Incunabula). Without a doubt, Language Field is adept at flipping switches. While “System Preferences” transports us to vintage disco/techno quarters, “Daiquiri Fuckery” launches into an unexpected jungle and drum’n bass frenzy that fans of Spring Heel Jack and Omni Trio would easily consume. “Loopercalia” slithers about with its acidic and braindance stems while “Zytec Aero,” the concluding track, fades into the sunset with a throwback electronic gloss. This aptly titled EP is quite a trip.
