Joachim Spieth :: Terrain (Affin)

There are no sharp edges here, merely rising and falling tones, hillocks and nooks where sound pools and swirls, eddying slowly before being released into the ether.

Each sound dropped into the sonic reflecting pool

Terrain is Joachim Spieth’s fourth long player on his own label—a collection of eight ambient soundscapes. The tracks flow seamlessly into one another, conjuring up images of vast open spaces, untouched by human hands, weathered and worn by forces for longer than any living thing could conceive of. Glassine pads, deep, ominous reverbs boom and shudder with each sound dropped into the sonic reflecting pool. There are no sharp edges here, merely rising and falling tones, hillocks and nooks where sound pools and swirls, eddying slowly before being released into the ether. Orchestral elements of swelling, swooning strings bump up against synthetic drones and strains awash in echoes and reverberations. The listener is in for a treat with this release; best to find a calm space to relax and enjoy as worlds are conjured before your ears and mind.
