Hrísey appears to be a collection of processed micro-noises and sounds collected empirically in Northern Iceland.
George Cloke is a young sound artist coming from Sevenoaks (United Kingdom). Adept of sound mapping / sound ecology he is also a member of the minimal post rockin’ ambient duo Team Morale. Hrísey represents the most challenging and experimental facet of George Cloke’s soundscapes.
Hrísey appears to be a collection of processed micro-noises and sounds collected empirically in Northern Iceland. The pieces are slowly moving, delicately droning and punctuated by a wide corpus of field recordings and found sounds (voices, metallic reverbs, water…) Minimalist, soaring melodious themes and textures give to this album a particular and colorful emotional vibe. Droning chords and smoothly ambient sequences are sometimes sustained by glitch-esque pop lines as in “Ferry out” or by sentimental acoustic lines as in “Spring Tide.” A convincing and personal sound travel through delicate minimal musical airs and nature sounds.
Hrísey is an energetic and modern soundscaping release, greatly recommended for followers of Kate Carr, The Humble bee, The Laborer, Off the sky and other British minimal folk ambient artists, also for listeners of Shimmering Moods materials. A fine example of green field recordings mixed with modern electronic art and ambient sculptures.
Hrísey is available as a self-release.
