Fleck E.S.C :: Rough Silk EP (Central Processing Unit)

Fleck E.S.C (aka Franck Collin) proves yet again his ability to create music that is both unique and electro-centered—Rough Silk being his second EP for CPU.

Melodic stabs layered in meticulously swirling beats

The title track delivers melodic variations of electro vibes that will hook you in instantly. The beats are intricate and busy while maintaining a pace that is appealing and captivating. This frenetic track is particularly compelling because of Fleck E.S.C’s adept use of variation. We all know that electro without variation doesn’t venture too far, so it’s nice to discover how it permeates not only this track but across the EP in its entirety.

Showcasing both his immense passion for electro and an ability to approach production in a way that is distinctive, “Hat in the Cat” blends Drexciyan roots with a dose of infectious machine funk. Fleck E.S.C (aka Franck Collin) proves yet again his ability to create music that is both unique and electro-centered—Rough Silk being his second EP for CPU.

The French sonic wizard further displays his creativity with “Faking Sweet” and I’m completely blown away by the sci-fi sound. There is a dynamic groove that is slightly acidic. The high-caliber sculptor simply delivers and does not disappoint. On a more chilled note, “Digger Play” wraps up the EP. I can’t help but think of Inkipak’s parallel trajectory, flawlessly manifesting stabbing synths with a groove to get lost in. The energy is maintained by melodic stabs layered in meticulously swirling beats.

Master mixer Amaury Groc put all the different sounds together to make the final version—which is simply astonishing—and Nathan Moody (Obsidian Sound) provided top-notch analog audio mastering.
