Delivering pleasant sound sculptures this side of The Milky Way, exm’s aptly titled ODD TIMES gathers four sonically enriched pieces of meandering modular synth beauties—have a listen to “Mabel_i” as an exquisite example. The title track traverses more upbeat terrain and reverses the notion of these odd times—capturing plink-plonk beat patterns and submerging them in ethereal atmospheres. The celestial and gamelan theme of “East” manages to carefully unfold within perhaps exm’s shortest track ever (clocking in at a mere 2:18), while the glitchy acidic bits and bobbles of “equall” squelch their way through Autechrean soil expanding at almost 12-minutes of fizz-fuzz acrobatics and Subotnik-like silver apples.
