Hypnotizing echoes the size of mountains
Just a few days ago (Jan 18, to be precise), our favorite ambient glitch sound sculptor self released MMLXXVII via Bandcamp—yet another time-stretched behemoth that rips through the fabric of space incorporating tried and true exp-electronic sound design elements and hypnotizing echoes the size of mountains. Each piece sequentially numbered (“00001” through “00006”), exm always manages to traverse strange, bewildering worlds where synthesizer strains merge with organic and cybernetic details. Microscopic slow-motion glitch beats persist and punctuate each dronescape, somehow seamlessly spliced with effervescent melodic notes along the way. It’s these elongated time capsules that exm is able to create that makes his recordings so intriguing and intoxicating. Whether it’s a 4 minute jaunt through ethereal spaces or a 16 minute foray into dithered ambient industrial wastelands, exm pulls it all together in swift and deconstructed audible formations. Soaring well into the future (2077), we’re left to decipher where we’ve been transported to, and with calm and turbulent moments, it continues to be a great trip.
