Blissful sound design elements that at once sound mechanical and arcane
Jeroen Bax (aka exm) is back at it (not that he slowed down at all) and we’re once again drawn by his unique ability to pull us into electronic vortexes where glitch, synths, and burbling industrial soundscapes are infused by acidic blips (ref “Teique01”) and calm(er) ambient spheres that could go on for an eternity (ref. “Mtate” and “fifty5”). A fluid assortment of shuffling beats and smoldering bass is offset by gorgeous noises and audible debris (ref. “BioExp”). While abstract electronics is clearly at the forefront of Post Acuem (this one is a self released effort), exm manages to dive into blissful sound design elements that at once sound mechanical and arcane (“CP002”) but somehow also exude emotivly magnetic attractions (“Ythd”). It’s these strange otherworldly spaces exm inhabits that are so mesmerizing—one simply cannot look away. The influx of sporadic beatwork (“Chain_PA”) eventually evolve into twisted and unusually compelling sound-art where underlying ambient tones and drones smoothen everything out. If “Gamish and Michael” isn’t enough to hypnotize with its soft piano expansion and soundtrack dynamic, we’re not sure what else will.
Post Acuem is available on Bandcamp.
