Changing and recombining into flickering sonic channels
exm presents TreeThree, a three-piece suite and sixty minutes of evolving and emotive glitch electronics from a multi-talented sound smith. Within these engulfing pieces, Jeroen Bax once again crafts delicately decapitated melodies that wander through crunchy ambient fields, expanding and contracting, changing and recombining into flickering sonic channels. The Autechre influences are buried deep within “17 06 is the” and you’ll also find floating voices off in the distance, as the title track shuffles in the background; its dense rhythmic flutter submerged in drones and echoes. “sokratevs” ends with clustered musique concrète peripherals, familiar disjointed shapes, and fidgeting pulses sounding like a language that will take years to decipher. In all, exm finds comfort in lengthy, amorphous soundscapes from many miles above our atmosphere.
