Entidad Animada :: Pequeño clima doméstico (Umor Rex)

Pequeño clima doméstico is radically atmospheric: it blends equally well with the sounds of traffic or chirping birds, with a slow Sunday morning with a book or with the Monday after sending emails while working from home, and is sure to improve any of these moments in a humble but powerful way.

Entidad Animada’s latest release is an intimate affair. His previous album on Umor Rex, Pruebas de Existencia, was a compilation of tracks in an eclectic array of ambient-adjacent styles and moods—from the Caretaker-like haze of “Cámara de bruma continua”, to post-rocky, guitar oriented numbers (“Holos,” “Nueva brisa”), to lo-fi, new age infused fragments of peace. Pequeño clima doméstico takes the opposite approach: the album is laser focused on the ARP Odyssey analog synth, the only instrument appearing on the record and most often with very few, unassuming effects like simple delays and reverbs. This take on minimalism is faithful to the very beginnings of ambient music, and the album concept itself echoes Erik Satie’s furniture music (“…furnishing music completes the décor of one’s property; it is new; it does not upset habits; it is not tiring”), but it can also remind some Japanese classics: in fact, if Hiroshi Yoshimura’s 1982 postcards looked out of the windows of the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Pequeño clima doméstico (“small domestic climate”) turns the gaze inwards and looks at the private space, towards domestic bliss, with six vignettes ranging from progressive electronics, to ambient, to drone.

The loops making up most of the tracks stretch for an arbitrary length of time, but they could easily continue longer, in the background of quiet moments lived at home. The soft staccatos and arpeggios of “Microcielo” and “Campobajo” harmonise and move in and out of consciousness, and the drones of tracks like “Acetal” and “Goldig” create a backdrop as warm and still as the sun coming in through the window, painting a golden trapeze on wooden floors. Pequeño clima doméstico is radically atmospheric: it blends equally well with the sounds of traffic or chirping birds, with a slow Sunday morning with a book or with the Monday after sending emails while working from home, and is sure to improve any of these moments in a humble but powerful way.
