V/A :: Darker Sounds Of A Present Future Vol. 1 (Errorgrid)

A mind-bending amalgamation of talented musicians finding themselves at the crossroads between an industrial-glitch fusion and deconstructed, dystopian sound worlds.

A surge of blistered and fractured beauty

You can’t help but immediately immerse yourself in the opening track on this new compilation series—Nundale’s “Collapsing Inwards” defines Errorgrid‘s ethos to a tee with dark brooding electronics, just enough bite, and an emotional punch to set your mind at ease. The Darker Sounds Of A Present Future series is here with a surge of blistered and fractured beauty.

The first installment of a label-wide project built around 2 genre-spanning compilations, Errorgrid’s artists created a sound library which served as the foundation for the compilation and which is included for download as an exclusive sample pack with the purchase of this compilation. After completion of purchase, creators have access to a digipak PDF file containing the link and password for the download. Musician’s then have a chance to have their track included on the second volume.

And now back to what this exciting first volume is all about.

The dimly lit ambient moments of Blakmoth’s “Cold Still Remains” is a densely packed swirl of smoldering activity as Broken Circuits torches post-industrial metals on “Amalgamation,” pushing the more extreme darker sound into a guitar-laced frenzy. Elsewhere you’ll find more turbulence and rhythmic sputtering on tracks like “remout opol” by Exan—reminiscent of early Gridlock days. But if you thought Errorgrid would remain stuck in one gear, you’d be wrong. The broken glitch exploits of “MalNor” (by Johno Wells) rip through the fabric of space, its sound design elements buried in buzzing atmospheric echoes and tempered beats. Sleep Clinic also offers glitched-out mayhem and electrical hypnosis via “HDD4,” a sizzling contribution pushing the imprint into the next echelon where artists like Phonem and Richard Devine are recalled. Malarki’s infectious “Inflection Collapse” does just what it sets out to do—flickering percussion, shuffling blips and static charges are tossed around and somehow remain in control.

Darker Sounds Of A Present Future Vol. 1 is a mind-bending amalgamation of talented musicians finding themselves at the crossroads between an industrial-glitch fusion and deconstructed, dystopian sound worlds. The listener gets the opportunity to sift through darker shadows and an impenetrable fog, getting lost somewhere in between. Now let’s see what Volume 2 brings us—planned to be released in March 2022!
