Malarki :: Emergence EP (Errorgrid)

The talented sonic experimentalist traverses dark corridors where glitch pillars brush against industrial sandstorms.

Magnetized by rugged rhythms

San Francisco-based Malarki crafts his third outing for Errorgrid, and, as you might expect, the talented sonic experimentalist traverses dark corridors where glitch pillars brush against industrial sandstorms (ref. “Aberrant Arrival”). The EP is a recipe for disconnected pulses, algorithmic beat shuffling, and mind-bending soundscapes. “The Restructuring” cascades through dark ambient fidgeting electrons that are magnetized by rugged rhythms. As the EP pushes forward, Malarki doesn’t hold back—the ricocheting glitch percussion persists, blending with static noises (“Beyond This”) as “Mutiny” exhibits an emotional tone, shattering masonry blocks via crunched synthesizer mayhem. Closing with mechanized audio shrapnel, Malarki’s experimental sound design is at full throttle on “Inevitable”—as thick as mud, this piece casts the darkest shadows we’ve heard in a while. A powerful extended player that punctuates the dead of night.
