An eerie, hypnotic atmosphere permeates Soplo, with its ambivalent, wandering melodies, flowing synth patterns, unpredictable experiments, and manipulations, all complemented by processed field recordings.
An emotional dive into an obscure tropical world
Welcome and published by Elevator Bath (label owned by genuine experimental sound artist Collin Andrew Sheffield) Soplo is the first release by Berlin-based Mexican multimedia and electroacoustic researcher/musician and DJ performer Daniela Huerta. This album embraces a vast palette of tone colors and experimental motifs for a vivid sonic journey, truly beatific, cryptical, tremendous, mournful and authentic beauty.
Soplo has a specific meditative atmosphere and appears to be an invitation to some animist rituals in deep synchronicity with the solemn, wild, changing and darkened sovereign nature. However, this is not entering new age territory due to the presence of visceral and incantatory sounding sculptures and strangely ominous timbres that leading figures of spectral music won’t deny. The ambiences are not cosy or soothing but more an emotional dive into an obscure tropical world populated by abstract entities, dark symbols as in a Horacio Quiroga novel for semi-nightmarish inflection.
An eerie, hypnotic atmosphere permeates Soplo, with its ambivalent, wandering melodies, flowing synth patterns, unpredictable experiments, and manipulations, all complemented by processed field recordings. Heavily droning and literary tranced vibes sometimes come out at the surface as in the moody-sequences “Gloria.” A powerful, imaginative, partly atonal, and dreary/mournful cinematic album to levitate in the confins of the world.
Daniela Huerta is an emerging talent poised for widespread recognition in the near future. With her effortless ability to push the boundaries of music, she creates a sonic world that is as captivating as it is innovative. Her work is a masterful blend of raw expression and daring experimentation, where electronic sounds intertwine to craft an essential, hauntingly beautiful traverse. An artist destined to leave a lasting mark on the music scene. For fans of Leila Bodreuil, Puce Mary, Helm, Cranioclast, Moljebka Pvlse, and Beyond Sensory Experience.
