Confetti Bomb MDMemily EP (Autoreply Music)

(March 2010) Autoreply Music are back in 2010 with a release by label owner Confetti Bomb who, despite having maybe the most Italo sounding moniker going, has been actively involved in the UK techno and house scene for the past ten years. This two tracker, MDMemily, marks the seventh release of Autoreply, with the label continuing down the line of deep minimal techno.

The record opens with “MDMemily,” a minimal industrial style track of deep tones and reverberating sections. The track has a strange juxtaposition, combining cold coils of sound around warm bass to produce a floor friendly piece full of depth. The flipside introduces “Fladdermus,” the Swedish for Bat with the winged mammal being the inspiration for this deep dark piece. The track skirts around the edges of uneasiness, with walls of tension compressing and expanding snares and bass. The track breaks into a whirling spiral of beat before coming back into the sanctuary of the caverns of deep bass.

MDMemily is a well produced and well rounded piece of deep techno. It does not adhere to the drudgery of some minimal tech tracks, basic beats looped over basic bass. The tracks on this EP have a deepness and cleverness that eclipse the listener in an underbelly of fundamental sound, pushing the limits of limitation along new lines of abstraction and intention.

MDMemily EP is out now on Autoreply Music.
