V/A :: Cold Readings (brokntoys)

A severally contagious EP that skips back and forth between rugged electronics and darktempo industrial extracts.

Cultivating abstract electronics with a darker tinge

London-based brokntoys continue to churn the goods—their cultivation of abstract electronics with a darker tinge always leaves a lasting impression as their output and roster continues to expand. Cold Readings brings together ΠΕΡΑ ΣΤΑ ΟΡΗ, Foreign Sequence, Shokh, Weith, and Scarlit Port for roughly 30 minutes on an already sold out 12″ released in late February 2021. A brooding smorgasbord that dips and dives into rhythmic hard hitting nostalgia (thanks to the prolific ΠΕΡΑ ΣΤΑ ΟΡΗ), to more aggressive post-industrial and ethereal drones by Weith, to Shokh’s distant glitchy synthesizer grooves. Cold Readings packs a definitive punch with Scarlit Port delivering acid electro/breaks tied to fractured bass lines with MBM-styled drum action while Foreign Sequence’s subdued acid warbling harkens back to mid-90s era industrial. This is a severally contagious EP that skips back and forth between rugged electronics and darktempo industrial extracts. Highly recommended.

Coid Readings is available on brokntoys. [Bandcamp]
