[Release page] Released on the challenging and innovative independent label Silent Media, Visitations is the latest Ben Link Collins effort. This album transcends the limits of ambient music and experiments a fascinating dialogue between a sonic soundscaping tapestry and meaningfully existential-intimate-allegorical poetries. The musical style concentrates on long sustained droning spheres, green field recordings and ambiguously fluctuating noises. Discreet abstract music meets interactive experiments. The poetical facet remains expressed inside the CD-book and remarkably written by Joel Fry. A personal reading can harmoniously and naturally accompany the floating harmonic sound textures and others noisy-drone sounding materials. These visitations encourage the listener to enter and be absorbed by fictional and neurotropic sound sculptures which subtly make us aware of new temporal forms of experience, profoundly static and paradoxical. “The farm before dawn” introduces us into a very singular and powerfully evocative universe made of infinite and slowly transforming metallic-chordal drones. “The Mariage proposal,” “Prayer and most of all Old Age” and “Sanders Street” carry on a rather similar musical path but put the emphasis on high pitches, burgeoning experiments, ecological sound sources and a tasteful communication between consonance and dissonant sound ingredients. “Old Age Sanders Street” and “A star on the sea” reach a rare degree of subjectiveness and radical abstraction. Close to the conceptual musical categorization of acousmatic researches. A honorable, unconventional and cerebral musical experience which can ravish fans of visionary experiments from the French GRM, the topographic sound excursions of Xenakis and the sonic art forms released by the label Empreintes Digitales.
