Sin Ciclo skillfully combines downtempo elements with breakbeats; sprinkling nostalgic electro fragments and melodic threads with pummeling effects.

It’s an exciting time to take in these fluid soundscapes, with some of the strongest electro and modular audio manglers from the Pacific Northwest (b0t23 aka Beau Crouch) and Spain (inoperative system aka Diego Ruiz) exchanging ideas once again—don’t miss their Reticle EP from February 2024—navigating futuristic sound design acrobatics. Within Sin Ciclo‘s five expansive sonic edges; glitch, breaks, IDM, bass, and dark ambient strands congeal seamlessly. Each piece is smoothed out by contrasting approaches that the two talented artists manifest—expertly refining percussion with synth swells and the lowest of basslines. The EP skillfully combines downtempo elements with breakbeats; sprinkling nostalgic electro fragments and melodic threads with pummeling effects.

Patterned Media has unquestionably been curating quality audio works; taking their time to develop a solid release schedule—or perhaps simply letting tunes simmer until they’re absolutely ready for consumption—producing top-notch results. “Trap Type Shit” opens with C-3PO-styled blips and bleeps hovering over roughened landscapes while “Retroiluminado” maneuvers its low-end over tranquilized harmonics. “Jan27” squiggles with staccato drum patterns as bursting modular bubbles on “Green” embark on old-school glitch’n electro shenanigans. The gentle groove of “Desplazada (electro nostàligico)” bookends Sin Ciclo and combines all the elements of its siblings to create the longest piece on this extended player. It features punchy yet delicately woven rhythms with subtle acidic undertones, all expertly packed with pseudo-vocodered elements to soften the edges towards its closure.

Fans of Touched Music, Analogical Force, Central Processing Unit, Roulette Rekordz, Pyramid Transmissions, and brokntoys should definitely check out Patterned Media, as this EP is just another reminder to earmark everything they put out.
