We very likely won’t be able to catch up to the many releases in 2023 that shook our ears, and sín.us’ vernal.dk is one that somehow slipped through the cracks. On these dozen tracks, all manner of instrumental electronics and blissful soundtrack motifs wisp by effortlessly. The album begins with “First Firmament Forlorn”‘s fluttering drums and cascading rhythm, followed by “Bidding The Dawn Away,” which features kaleidoscopic beats that slink through the mist.

As the album progresses, Igor Temel (aka sín.us) finds darker threads and splices them with cinematic and panoramic moments as evidenced on “Morfirien And Sylph,” yet he doesn’t seem to sit still at all. Brittle electrical bits collide on “Elevators Over Revenant Sea” where synth layers overlap while “Seeing Silent Stars” traverses an ambient electronica aura from the late 90s.

The events depicted in vernal.dk took place during real archeological excavations several years ago near Bitola, Macedonia. The outcome offers a unique fusion of experimental music with organic textures and tones buried within a vast landscape that is worth scrutinizing further—just like discovering ancient (sonic) artifacts. We’ll do better job next time uncovering these rare gems; thank you sín.us.
