Simply put, the sporadic sound designs of AZ-Rotator are extremely infectious. From the onset of his latest EP, Magnetic Neutron Sudoku develops into a sleek braindance collection. Opening tracks “Yabba Yabba” and “Distalon” are both full-force melodic glitch-n-break beasts with echoes of Aphex Twin and Mouse On Mars not too far in the distance. Lowering the tempo, “Inderflex” explores ambient electronic connections with syncopated beats and fragmented acid blips, while “A N D O” deftly navigates funk and bouncy yet reflective slow motion breaks.

For quite some time, AZ Rotator, also known as Madrid-based Uge Ortiz, has developed his own sound sculptures for a range of notable IDM-adjacent imprints including Evel, Lovethechaos, Ad Noiseam, and Mozyk (to name a few)—trailblazing through a myriad of abstract electronics (case in point: “Weirdreams” and “Dirtane”) and maintaining a steady trajectory of emotionally charged sound fields that rarely anyone comes close to. A powerful logic-based letter puzzle to unfold carefully.
