Gestalt, Arovane’s latest album on Puremagnetik is a collection of vast and deep soundscapes, infused with evocative tones that come from within. Seemingly minimal, and simplistic on the surface, discerning ears will find concisely executed complexity, thoughtful arrangements, and detail-oriented sound sculpting within the music.
Tracks like “endolp” and “looj” feature warm and dreamy pads, softly layered with washes of static and white noise. On the other hand “cinn” and “quoo” have a central focus on drifting melodic elements, engulfing the listener with synthesized bliss. Uwe Zahn is known for creating shimmering, elegant ambient textures but on Gestalt—each song is like a Polaroid picture, completely capturing the feelings of that very moment. “Sounds reflect my emotions,” Zahn says, “sound has its own language.” On Gestaltthat isn’t “a polished surface. There is a lot of hiss, noise, and texture hidden underneath.”
A limited run of cassette tapes were made available from Puremagnetik, and I should add that the album is great in this particular format.
