From forming the first ever release on City Centre Offices in the late 90’s through to releases on DIN, Arovane had carved out a well respectable niche in complex melancholy drenched electronica. Thankfully he’s not put his instruments to rest and now signed to the excellent n5MD imprint.
Uwe Zahn signed off his 2004 album Lilies with a track entitled “Goodbye Forever” bringing to a close a golden period for melody inflected IDM. From forming the first ever release on City Centre Offices in the late 90’s through to releases on DIN, Arovane had carved out a well respectable niche in complex melancholy drenched electronica.
Thankfully he’s not put his instruments to rest and now signed to the excellent n5MD imprint has a new album ve palor ready for release later this year. In the meantime there’s plenty to feast your ears on over at Arovane’s Soundcloud page plus n5MD have been good enough to excite our lugholes further with a remastered re-issue of 2002’s Cycliph EP.
Opener “Tabl-f” is packed full of involved yet accessible melodics scattered across kick and sub driven rhythms—a track steeped in nostalgia a decade ago, even more so now and all the better for it. “Driad” introspectively works a hazy repetitive refrain across soft digital dust encrusted percussion whilst the beautiful “Vraiil” sits firmly in the sphere of all things Autechre, Ochre and Boards of Canada. With inclusion of a bonus (rare) track “D II Sabl,” this is not just a great intro to Arovane’s back catalogue but, for fans, a reminder that justifies our anticipation of ve palor.
Cycliph is available on n5MD. [Release page]
