Tone is a relaxed and effective set of tones’n drones offering a panorama of deep ambient-electronica paths by one of our favorite musical sculptors.
A dreamy, magical landscape
Opening track “Tone 1” weaves its way through soft, crumpled cloth, giving the impression that 4T Thieves is in a much more laid-back coordinate than most of us. “Tone 3” glides in the wind within a mere one hundred seconds as the EP descends into serene ambient murmurs. “Tone 2” explores nostalgic quarters with off-center rhythms and downtempo flickering beats while highlight track, “Tone 4,” emits psychedelic electronica and calming atmospheric textures that disperse in the background—much like a Boards of Canada interlude would; its twisted melodic strands transport listeners back to an earlier, more carefree childhood.
“Tone 5,” the album’s closing track, provides just enough breathing room to let these multifaceted synth swells flow. The hypnotic stream of consciousness transformation of “Tone 5” evaporates into a percussive treasure trove of delicately woven moods buried in a dreamy, magical landscape. As a result, Tone is a relaxed and effective set of tones’n drones offering a panorama of deep ambient-electronica paths by one of our favorite musical sculptors.
