Perhaps the finest assortment from the 4T Thieves moniker, the talented artist continues to etch a winding audio path through which IDM’s subtle sub-genres are easily tucked within.
Nik has carved a name for himself as 4T Thieves and owner/operator of one of the longest running Netlabels—Kahvi. For this round of musical troves, Bulgarian Netlabel Mahorka snags the audible gems. And lucky they are, Circles refines the artists’ sound—ambient/dub electronica at its core, the aptly-titled “Analogue Cool” is an intense, bass-infused nugget with softened edges for nighttime headphone listening. The Boards’ interlude-style isn’t too far in the distance with “Interim”—a 34-second, nostalgic modular beauty. “Jams” delivers abundant sizzling sound effects sputtering about the floor only to be collected by a looping beat to round its edges. Circles is perhaps just that—cyclic sounds coalesce into high intensity sonic magma. “Layers of Obscurity” delves into magnetic post-industrial bliss—heavy downtempo drums and acidic blur creates for a calm if not chilled-out venture. Closing with a dizzying 6-minute epic, “Springy Analogy” is utter ambient-electronic armchair music with finesse. Perhaps the finest assortment from the 4T Thieves moniker, the talented artist continues to etch a winding audio path through which IDM’s subtle sub-genres are easily tucked within.
Circles is available on Mahorka.
