THINKBOX, a collaborative of Windsor/Detroit artists, present the first in a series of compilations documenting the current emergence of experimental electronic music in Detroit. Settings, an 11 track full-length disc, displays how familiar, every day sounds can be manipulated with modern music technology and digital techniques to produce warm listening textures, slow spacial melodies, cut-up blips, plips & plinks, and involved ambient soundscapes.

Since the self-curating media collective started sharing ideas in the late 1990’s, they have passionately involved themselves in producing a kind of experimental ‘intermedia’ that is both unfamiliar and unique. Much of their collective output to this point has been comprised of large scale new media installations, ambitious video projection projects, performances in gallery settings, and the occasional foray into the more experimental aspects of club culture. In that capacity, members of the collective have performed alongside notable international electronic acts including Scanner, David Toop, Telefon Tel Aviv, Carl Craig & Innerzone Orchestra, Rhythm and Sound, Thomas Brinkmann, and Sutekh.

With sound influences as diverse as Mille Plateaux, Minus, 12k, City Centre Offices, Scape, Raster Noton, and countless other labels impacting their work, you may be intrigued by what THINKBOX has to offer into the universal mix. Settings is an instantly seductive and easily accessible assortment of sounds created by THINKBOX’s stable of audio manipulators as they look to the CD format as their newest group venue!
