CLAIR :: “Body Blossom” (Hot Gem)

The entire composition rests in the ears and mind like a dewy mist hanging over the mossy floor of a forest tucked into rolling green hills.

Harmony with soft synthetic melodies

Clair Crawford (aka CLAIR) weaves sublime and sensual music from a rich gathering of textures and sounds. Her 2021 release Earth Mothers (Hot Gem) has been praised by listeners and musicians alike for the strange and quiet beauty of its tracks, weaving elements of new age music, lyrical improvisation and careful sound-crafting. Each track is like a summer idyll in a cool forest or quiet forgotten garden. CLAIR revisits the sounds of imagined and remembered verdant places with “Body Blossom.”

Using field recordings sent to her by San Francisco based filmographer Andy MacLennan, CLAIR constructs a three minute, three second escape into someplace untouched by humanity where nature thrives and lives in harmony with soft synthetic melodies woven in. The entire composition rests in the ears and mind like a dewy mist hanging over the mossy floor of a forest tucked into rolling green hills. To capture the listener with no drums, vocals or flash is no mean feat and CLAIR does so with ease—demanding repeated listens to capture the spirits of the forest again if but for a moment. A video for “Body Blossom” by San Francisco filmmaker Andy MacLennan is being released imminently, and a forthcoming remix EP from modular synth wizard Polypores (Castles in Space, Woodford Halse, Waxing Crescent…) and Edinburgh based modern classical artist / pianist Euan Dalgarno will follow soon.

“Body Blossom” is available on Hot Gem. [Bandcamp]
