Continuing from our Richard Borge Visual Archive (from 2012)—fast forward nine years and here we are again celebrating the organic displays of color, texture and subliminal messages from the earlier years of Meat Beat Manifesto‘s artwork. We are consistently amazed at this era of Borge‘s visuals for MBM that we decided to reach out again and put together an archive showcasing his vivid collages and mind-bending artwork (as well as two related videos) Richard Borge created during that period—and they’re timeless.

Subliminal Sandwich is still one of my favorite packages

Working with Jack Dangers has always been a wonderful experience. He is a true artist and a great collaborator. It was always fun to get a copy of the music before anyone else, often times burned onto a CD with a handwritten title. I distinctly remember finishing up Subliminal Sandwich—it was put together on a Mac that at the time was a powerhouse. The cover image was about 20 megabytes, making it a beast to make edits on. Once the whole package was designed and delivered, I was off to Miami to visit a friend for a week of relaxing. I landed in Miami and rented a red convertible Mustang. Driving out of the airport on that warm sunny day with the top down, I had the radio on and the DJ said “…here’s a new one from Meat Beat Manifesto” in that deep, heavily processed DJ voice. I cranked it up loud and was smiling as I hit the road, feeling such gratitude. This was all pretty early in my career, and it was one of those really fantastic moments when you feel everything line up just right. Subliminal Sandwich is still one of the favorite packages that I worked on.” ~Richard Borge
