Less than a year after TON, a two-hour-and-a-half glitch mammoth that made it into Igloo’s Best of 2024 round-up, Özcan Saraç is back on Evel with Neural Generators of the Auditory Brainstem Response—and if TON already seemed daunting for its lengths and experimentation, Saraç’s seventh album ups the ante, clocking over 330 minutes divided into twenty-five movements.
After collaborating on the live renditions of Maselli’s galvanic Lazzaro (Opal Tapes, 2021), Domiziano Maselli and Tommaso Rolando team up again on the cryptically titled Enjoy Country Music, out on cassette and digital on Torto Editions (Rolando’s own label).
Music like this makes the difference between production and artistic creation clear: in this sense, the generative substrate underlying these tracks is a starting point, a bedrock of naturally occurring variation that nnirror cherry-picks and spotlights with arrangements pushing the limits of complexity.
Compared to Grischa Lichtenberger’s previous efforts, 1224_28_lv_1_re obliteration—released by South Korean label dingn\dents at the extreme tail end of 2024—leans even further into the digital noise side of glitch.
