MacroNoise :: Continuum EP (Post-Label)

Continuum is nothing short of sincere, melodic, organic, and developed with an exquisite downtempo pulse reminding one of deconstructed 90s-era Portishead, Purple Penguin, and Morcheeba. A welcomed retreat that captures hundreds of micro-noises and forms them into blissful summertime tunes.

We’ve covered a few of the Slovak producer going by the name MacroNoise since the middle of 2017, and we’re always interested to hear where he takes his sound next. The overarching theme being organic instrumentation, Continuum revolves around downtempo strains and vocal strands tethered by brisk beat patches.

“Taking Off” is an emotional blur, its crisped percussion and subdued drone is utterly beautiful, the melody (or chorus if you will), is a cascading synthesized loop meant for repeating listening in a warm, desolate place. “Reiki” is simply an otherworldly evolution of MacroNoise’s signature—fluttering harmony working its way through the background drums and lively bass. “Saturn Dust” is a brittle, charming, and delicate IDM escape, the pace elevated with fractured bits and bytes to join it all together. The title track simmers in a far-away field, the ambient field noises coalescing into Fennesz-like fizz and fuzz as it breaks down slowly. “Touch Down” continues to reach the highest musical plateau, its drifting voices, off-kilter beats, and building melodies eventually explodes into a Plaid-drenched foray built with sheer tunefulness and upbeat four-to-the-floor appeal.
