Cryo Chamber announces here an other collaborative effort between veteran projects Atrium Carceri, Cities Last Broadcast. For this new release it adds the participation of an regular Cryo Chamber project: God Body Disconnect. Stylistically we are still wandering on the subterranean and cinematographic dark ambient territory but this collaborative album introduces a corpus of new elements taken from the post-rocking music genre and from the doom / funereal jazzy ambient galaxy (Borhen and der club of gore, Kilimanjaro dark jazz ensemble). The cinematographic dimension is once more brought to the fore, with implicit references to mysterious film-noir with an existential background (the man of London.) To say the least, it is an efficiently evocative and slow moving soundtrack experience with cloudy, enveloping, and moody soundscapes punctuated by a vast collection of micro sounds, field recordings and electronic treatments. The soundscapes alternate glitch-ambientesque piano excursions with nightly rumbling soundscapes, heavy bass lines, echoing guitar tricks, incantatory spectral motives and even plaintive vocal ingredients (in the last track of the album). Miles To Midnight figures among the few Cryo Chamber’s albums which admit a clear hybrid of styles between dark ambient with an eloquent cinematic touch and downtempo doom jazz. Somewhere between Pauline Oliveros’deep listening band, Earth, Borhen and der club of gore and various downtempo isolationist ambient acts from Cryo Chamber’s production.
