Perhaps pointing to outdated computer systems, or technology in its title, Ignatius—covered quite a bit in our pages—continues to craft out of this world modular audio collages that bend, ricochet, and transform. Distorted sonic mechanisms tend to maneuver their way through rugged rhythms, as they fall apart and degenerate. This trajectory evolves as the artists’ signature is exposed within the dense bits and bobbles of “bfm” to the Phoenecian dissolved electro grooves featured on “Vnoodles.” Time is stretched for this Pacific Northwest resident who runs the aptly titled Buried In Time imprint. The thirteen offerings (seven originals, and six bonus outtakes) on Legacy Systems range anywhere from four to thirteen minutes—a free flowing analogous assortment. Darker paths are carved via the soundtrack elements of “LateVgate,” its altered gritty bass and beats echo through vast dronescapes. Throughout this album one can easily find creative segues into abstract electronics. Take “326live,” as an example—the sheer density, and elongated slow-motion pulse of this Subotnick-like track is articulated so well, it’s the quintessential starting point.
