This new Shrine album presents an intense, emotionally compelling and subliminal droning dark ambient album whose concept is dedicated to Chernobyl’s nuclear / human disaster and its legacy. Titled Ordeal 26.04.86, this release can be identified as a dolorous, otherworldly and immersive post-industrial soundtrack. Shrine (aka Hristo Gospodinov) is coming from Bulgaria and is a well known space ambient artists for listeners in touch with the impressive catalog of Cyclic Law. Ordeal 26.04.86 is an absolutely elegant, slow moving, charming and enthralling moody ambient album which starts with the aerial and deeply emotional “Atomgrad,” articulated around field recordings, blissful synth textures and noisy electronic effects. It carries on the grainy and continuously soaring and melancholic drone hypnosis “Radiant Skyline” and the “Silent Apocalypse” with splendid, tense and heavenly spaced-out textures. “The burden of Knowledge” closes the album with an atmospheric space ambient elegy. The stylistic path is quite similar to past albums with large cathedral of ethereal then enchanting drones sustained by micro-noises and more abstract cyber-like electronic moves. Somewhere between the cold and minimal synthscaping landscapes of Rapoon in Timefrost, Netherworld in Alchemy of Ice, materials from Sabled Sun and the emotional isolationism of Yuri Lugosvksi but with more emphasize on the heart-breaking and melodious atmospheric side.
