(06.13.06) It’s no wonder Otto approached Ipecac Records, considering his ultra freaky style and his past excursions in metal. The manifesto of the entire record comes just after a brief intro; “Tea Bagging The Dead” is a clash between straight gabba beats on one side and heavy metal riffs on the other, quickly becoming the anthem for your next breakcore party. Don’t expect cohesion of style or form throughout this album, there are 18 tracks compressed in 53 minutes, many are squelching interludes, the only thing in common is that they’re all picked by Mike Patton himself among the huge OVS library. “Alligator Waltz” received some airplay on Mary Anne Hobbs radio show, and it’s one of the most extreme here: drums roll in a never-ending rush, interrupted only by eastern chants; “Trick Snitch” has just been released on Touchin’ Bass, I won’t call it electro but it’s indeed very bouncy, full of compressed bass and somewhat danceable; “Three Billion Electron Volts” is a hyper speed drum’n’bass tune disturbed by static noise and electrified bass, this too should deserve a vinyl release. A shocking track is “Submarine Mammal Milk,” a DSP feast most notable for its sample editing that builds a soundtrack of for imaginary porn movie: let’s hope such a flick remains imaginary, because no human eye should ever witness the orgy depicted by Otto.
The second half of the record features standard OVS sonic chaos, the sad thing is that towards the end the music progressively loses intensity and freshness, the listener’s attention wanes, in particular if you already own previous works these last tracks will sound a bit more of the same. This said, Maxipad Detention sounds more solid and accomplished than Global Speaker Fisting, so in the end I would say this is one of the best OVS releases so far, plus it’s packed with unforgettable artwork by long time friend Arnold of As1, a man who can pack as much fancy in a square inch of cover as OVS packs squeaking sounds in a single second.
