With a delicate brush beat, “Codeine” methylates throbbing air into a morphine rush. “Tigress” paws at raindrops from beneath a sheltering canopy of oblong mangrove leaves as a salty rhythm rises from the swamp. “Hot Guns & Pink Sugar” is darker and dirty, the beat an unfaltering hortator driving galley slaves at the oars, the vessel’s prow lurching as it cleaves through black water, a solemn chorale the wind against them.
