This 60-minute cd from an 18-year-old Swede may quite possibly be one of the best releases of all of 2000. The combination of influences is obvious, but not so predominant as to be embarassing (think Funkstörung and you’re on the right track).

Take a bit of the Mo’Wax approach to instrumental hip hop, the lo-fi grit of Jazz Fudge and what seems to be the inherent melancholy of music from this part of Europe and you get something that’s like hip-hop, but at the same time quite beyond it. The structure is there, but the touches applied come out more like a mad combination of Boards of Canada and DJ Shadow going head to head in a remix battle with DJ Vadim and Tortoise. Ridiculously good for someone this young, the entire album flows from beginning to end naturally – there are standout tracks, like the gorgeous “You [And Me]” – but nothing needs to be skipped.
