Trippin’ is timely, the London (Ontario) label cementing the Newfoundland-based producer’s growing profile with a more substantial presence.

Canadian ambient/electronic practitioner Zachary Gray’s album Trippin’ is set to land on A Person Disguised as People. The 9-track LP comes on the back of the previous Suburbia EP (APDAP, 2024) (see igloo’view) with a rollout spanning a couple of years via teaser and remix releases.

Nov. 2024 saw a 2-track taster Trippin’ / In Arrears (igloo’view here) as part of APDAP‘s A/B Series; back then the title track tasted like a ‘a doleful brooder, replete with melodic synth lines recalling early 90s Warp luminaries (cf. Black Dog, Plaid), layers of rhythm and harmony making for an uneasy introspective tenor’ (igloo’view), with ‘a deft touch in blending electronic production detail and filmic affect’ overall commended. Spin-off EP Trippin’ Variations (igloo’view here) followed Feb. 2025, featuring re-thinks of the title track by mates of Gray incl. Hidden Rivers, SXXN, Soft Operator and James Scott. Now comes the full release, somewhat later than planned—Autumn 2026; the Fall that pride came before perhaps!

The album furthers the evolution of Gray’s anatomy, tracing years of his musical composition, revision and memory, from a back catalog grounded in early releases such as Under a Red Sky (Synesthesia Media, 2020), Plan B (APDAP, 2020), Hustle Movement (APDAP, 2017), Night Hustle (APDAP, 2016), Containment (APDAP, 2015) plus collabs with luminaries like Benoît Pioulard, Montag, and Sea Oleena. Trippin’ is timely, the London (Ontario) label cementing the Newfoundland-based producer’s growing profile with a more substantial presence.
