A visceral debut from Chang Terhune’s new alias Containment, The Rotating Boy is a feral four-track assault where broken jungle, corroded synths, and hyper-pressurized breakbeats fuse into a volatile rush of euphoria, collapse, and percussive violence.
Breakbeat combustion warps rave memory
From synth-soundsmith Chang Terhune (aka Cathode Ray Tube), new alias Containment focuses on roughened beatwork: blissed-out breaks and frenetic jungle collide across The Rotating Boy, a four-track EP that tears forward on a surge of breakbeat combustion, warping rave memory into something volatile and hallucinatory—equal parts euphoria, pressure, and collapse. Rugged synth excursions grind through erosion, splintered melodic threads, and relentless rhythmic pressure. Opener “Remangulator Dub” unfurls a snare-snapped web of writhing breakcore-electronics, while “Contrasolar” detonates in a flood of saturated drums and laser-cut bass, clearing space through sheer percussive force and warped rhythmic violence.
Each cut feels inseparable from its counterpart. “Macroplosive” drifts into an exploratory zone of ambient momentum before erupting into stacked breakbeat volleys, setting a tense trajectory toward a closing blow. Title track “The Rotating Boy” obliterates any lingering expectations of form, unleashing scorched modular barrages, blistered melody, and some of this year’s most punishing drum work. Jungle, breaks, funk, and corroded industrial mass converge in a dense sonic spread—a four-track strike that lands with unmistakable impact.
